Due to the heavy rainfall this year, our imported water supplies have been augmented with a larger-than-typical portion of local water. The local water has been experiencing fluctuations in its thermocline, which is the transition layer between the warmer mixed water at the surface and the cooler deep water below within a large body of water. When this occurs, some people may notice an earthy, leafy smell and/or taste. This is only an aesthetic issue – your water is still safe for consumption as this poses no health concerns.

To rectify this situation, our imported water supplier(s) is decreasing the percentage of local water being added to its Colorado River and State Project Water blend. As the threshold is lowered, we anticipate it will take several more days for the taste and odor to dissipate.

We thank you for your patience and apologize for the inconvenience.
